Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi last week officially unveiled its new Head Coach Bala Nikyu even as it revealed that seventeen players have been retained, with more are expected to strengthen the squad. The developments come as the club seeks to return to the nation's professional league. The event, which held at the McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi Tuesday June 30, 2026 brought together the club’s management, technical crew, players, staff and members of the media as the club unveiled the new football architect entrusted with the responsibility of guiding Lobi Stars back to the Nigeria Premier Football League. Chairman of Lobi Stars FC, Simon Terver Ikya, described the occasion as more than an unveiling, but a defining moment that signals a renewed direction and collective commitment towards achieving the club’s ambitions. Ikya highlighted Nikyu's wealth of experience and deep understanding of Nigerian football, urging players and staff to give the new coach their maximum support. Ikya also charged everyone connected with the club to rise to the occasion, stressing that the target remains promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League. He further Ikya appreciated the contributions and support of the Executive Governor of Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and assured that Lobi Stars under his leadership will continue to justify the confidence of the government and people of Benue State. Coach Nikyu, who in his last coaching appointment guided Nasarawa United back to the Nigeria Premier Football League in the 2023/2024 season, brings more than a decade of CAF 'A' Licence experience and vast technical knowledge to the Pride of Benue. In his response, the new coach expressed his full commitment to the assignment, promising to build a positive legacy in Benue while working towards returning Lobi Stars to the top flight. He said the focus would be on hard work, discipline and on field results. At a media interactive session, the coach disclosed that his football strategies would manifest through the club's performance. Club Secretary Terzungwe Chugh, in closing remarks appreciated the efforts of the coaching crew and backroom staff, urging the new technical team to work together and ensure the 'Pride of Benue' regains its place among Nigeria’s football elite. A highlight of the ceremony was the official unveiling and contract signing between Coach Bala and Lobi Stars conducted by the Club Chairmanwhich was followed by the introduction of the new coach to the players, management and staff of the club.
