By Samuel Adzegeh, Editor in Chief EXCLUSIVE: There is palpable fear and anxiety among close circles around Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following fears that the President may be in danger as he has only a few hours before documents about whether his past dealings in the United States were criminal or not are exposed. A US Court recently ruled that documents relating to Tinubu's past be exposed to the international community latest August 28, barely six hours from now.. Truth about the President's birth date, birth place, education history, etc, have for long been a subject of intense controversy with millions of Nigerians eager for the truth about their no. 1 citizen with Abubakar Atiku, Tinubu's opponent in the upcoming 2027 being the most relentless in the battle to expose who the real Tinjbu is. Tension rose considerably Friday last week when a United States of America, USA, District Court ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, 2027 Presietial candidate to show reason why documents linking Tinubu to an alleged drug-trafficking criminal investigation should remain buried in the annals of the US justice department. The order, issued by Judge Beryl Howell of the USA District Court for the District of Columbia, was reportedly disclosed by a Senior Government Advisor and Consultant in Washington DC, Dr. Karl Von Batten, on his X handle. Batten tweeted: “We have now been informed that @uscourts Judge Howell this morning granted the @FBI permission to provide the Court with the documents in private, and has given the @FBI, @DEAHQ, @TheJusticeDept, and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT) until August 28, 2026 (“and no later”), to file their opposition to the release of Tinubu’s alleged drug-trafficking records.“ I stress the Judge’s “no later” comment because the Court has reached its limit and is making it clear that the FBI must now convince the Court why the documents are too sensitive to be released.” Dr. Batten stated further that the FBI has now admitted that it holds highly sensitive information on President Tinubu, a departure from the position under former President Joe Biden’s administration. His words: “Unlike the @JoeBiden @TheJusticeDept (DOJ), where the DOJ and FBI blocked, stonewalled and refused to admit they had any sensitive drug-trafficking-related documents on President #Tinubu, the DOJ and FBI under President @realDonaldTrump are moving fast and being transparent, as they move through the process.“ The #FBI has now admitted that it has highly sensitive drug-trafficking-related information about President #Tinubu. By admitting this, we now know (that) Tinubu’s claim that the case was simply about civil forfeiture is untrue. The FBI does not deem civil cases highly sensitive, and seeks to present the evidence to the Judge in private.” He added that the request for a private review is typical in cases involving Criminal Informants, saying, “This is usually done in high-level drug cases, where the goal is to protect the Agency’s dealings with the Criminal informant. It ties into the allegation that President #Tinubu ratted out his alleged co-drug traffickers in exchange for immunity from prosecution.” Dr. Batten linked the development to the current USA administration of President Donald J. Trump. “The #FBI admitting in Court that it has sensitive information on President #Tinubu, and requiring the Court to review the documents privately before any Court order ordering their release is given, aligns with what our friend in the Trump Administration has told us, 'We will follow the Law, but we do not protect drug traffickers'. “The FBI is following standard procedures for protecting Informants, but is also openly communicating that President #Tinubu’s claim of innocence is far from the truth. We thank President Trump and the White House Senior Staff, for moving this case forward after three years of stalling, and for being fully transparent, unlike the Biden DOJ, which did not acknowledge it had sensitive information on Tinubu”, he stated. The Court gave all parties until August 28, 2026, to file any opposition. Judge Howell is expected to review the documents privately thereafter, and rule on the public release request. It is not clear as at the time of filing this report if Tinubu or any of the parties have complied with the Judge's directive to file an opposition to his orders. It is also not clear what the next action of the Donald Trump Administration may be, but the administration has been known to kidnap at least two sitting President's over similar drug related cases. There is pervasive fear in Presidential circles that the case of Nigeria's President may end up the same way.
