Benue SDP candidate in next year's governorship election, Prof. Sébastine Hon (SAN) has raised alarm over on going road construction in Moon districtmof Kwande local government of Benue State by the government of neighbouring Taraba State. Speaking as "Counsel who has been rummaging through historical documents concerned with the borderline between Benue and Taraba States", Hon said the Taraba State action amounts to "territorial annexation" even as he added that it also is a "provocation of the highest order" "For the avoidance of any doubt, Part 1 of the 1st Schedule to the 1999 Constitution has listed the Local Government Areas that make each of the 36 States. Item 7 on that Part of the Schedule has listed Kwande as one of the Local Government Areas constituting Benue State, while Item 34 has listed the Local Government Areas that make up Taraba State. Now, THERE IS NO DOUBT, HISTORICALLY AND EMPIRICALLY, that Moon falls within Kwande LGA." The guber candidate called for immediate action by the Benue State Government to stop the development, pointing out that, "The Taraba State Government has no atom of constitutional power to embark on construction of roads in Moon, " he averred. "The Benue State Government should immediately rise to the occasion and put a stop to this unconstitutional conduct forthwith."
