Signs that the 'strategic partnership' being championed in Benue State by PDP leader and former governor Samuel Ortom has run into troubled waters emerged with a sizzling press statement in which the Benue South Zone of the APC strongly disassociated itself from any dealings with the Benue PDP. The strategic partnership seeks to organize opposition elements across party lines against the re-election of Governor Hyacinth Alia as Benue Governor In the 2027 elections. Following reports that the Zone C APC is in support of the re-election of the PDP candidate Senator Abba Moro, the leadership of the zonal APC issued the following vitriolic statement titled, BENUE SOUTH APC REJECTS PURPORTED ENDORSEMENT OF MORO. Dated September 5, 2026 and signed by Hon. Job Onum, Zonal Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C), the statement read: "The attention of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Benue South Senatorial District, has been drawn to the disturbing photograph and very unfortunate comments that emanated from today's flag-off of Senator Abba Moro's 2027 campaign, where a banner bearing the name and identity of the APC Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C) was prominently displayed, and statements made purporting to suggest support for “Tinubu and Moro.” "We consider this development a complete show of shame, political desperation and a calculated attempt to mislead the people of Benue South. For the avoidance of doubt, the APC in Benue South has no alliance with the PDP and has not endorsed Senator Abba Moro. The APC has its candidate, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo, and our political direction is clear, Tinubu for President, Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia for Governor and Dr Francis Ottah Agbo for the Senate. It is therefore unacceptable for anyone to attend a PDP campaign flag-off and attempt to decorate the occasion with an APC identity in a manner calculated to create the impression that the APC has endorsed the PDP candidate. This is not an endorsement. It is shameless show of desperation. "Senator Abba Moro is a prominent PDP leader and candidate seeking another ungodly term under the platform of the PDP. If the already sunken ship PDP is confident in its strength in Benue South, it should campaign on its own platform and seek support from its own members rather than attempting to manufacture an APC endorsement in a charade. "The spectacle witnessed today is particularly unfortunate. After years of claiming that Zone C belongs to the PDP, why the sudden desperation to display APC identity at a PDP campaign event? The answer is obvious, it is an attempt to create an illusion of cross party acceptance that does not exist. Let it therefore be stated clearly, Benue South APC is not PDP. APC has not endorsed Abba Moro, APC has its own candidate, and Benue South APC cannot be enticed back to Egypt. "Our members should remain calm and completely disregard attempts to confuse them with banners, photographs or political theatrics. We remain firmly committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Hyacinth Alia and our senatorial candidate, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo. The APC in Benue South remains united, focused and resolute. "We will not be deceived. MWe will not be distracted. And we will not go back to Egypt."
