Reactions continue worldwide as the three apex socio-cultural organizations in Benue State (Mdzough U Tiv, Ochetoha ‘K Idoma, Omi Ny’Igede), joined the rest of the world in condemning the attack on the convoy of Presidential candidate of opposition NDC who was on his way to Yelewata to commiserate with victims over the tragic killings that had befell the community last year. In a press release dated 9th September 2026 and signed by Air CommodoreTitus Agbecha (Retired), Chairman of the joint forum, the associations said it condemns the incident "in the strongest possible terms", adding, "We condemn any act that obstructs leaders, dignitaries, or citizens from offering comfort and solidarity to grieving communities. Benue is known for hospitality and dignity. We cannot allow isolated actions to define us or to be used to paint our state as hostile to peace and dialogue. On the basis of the foregoing, we make the following submissions: a. We call on our children to channel their grievances through dialogue. Do not allow yourselves to be used to inflame tensions. The blood already shed in Benue is too much. b. We also call on Security Agencies to provide adequate protection for all citizens and visitors, especially those on humanitarian and solidarity missions. c. Most importantly, we call on all Benue people to protect the peace of our land. The three socio-cultural organizations in Benue remain committed to peace, justice, and the protection of our people. We will engage relevant stakeholders, including youth leaders, to ensure that this does not happen again."
