Abfavourite Lucky Dube song, "The Waynit is", tells the all too familiarmstory. Robert Orya, remember him? That suave, charismatic, swashbuckling socialite, philanthropist and grassroots mobilizer who contributed so much to the lives of so many in the Benue society and beyond, taking on people's problems as if they were personal to him. Well, this write-up is not about that. It is not even about the fact that the once-bubbling all-round socialite is currently serving a 390 year prison sentence in Kuje prison. The story is that the former CEO of NEXIM Bank, who used to have a retinue of psychophants and hangers-on around him 24/7, has been totally abandoned by friends and family and is facing his ordeal in prison alone; even his closest frieds have become too busy to visit. However, Orya still has a thing or two going for him; his 39-count ten-year sentences run concurrently, meaning he has just ten years to serve; second, at his age, he'll still be strong when he finally steps out; he best however, is that he is still in his usual infectious very high spirits, the best anti dote against his current travail. As the French would say, "C'est la vie."
