There is widespread jubilation among residents of Gbkko and its environments following approval, by the Federal Ministry of Aviation, of the reconstruction of an air strip in Yandev, a neighbouring town and host of the famous Benue Cement Company. In a letter to Hon. Regina Akume, House of Representatives Member for Gboko Tarka, the ministry acknowledged receipt of her letters on the subject and disclosed that plans are already in place to commence renovation of the facility, abandoned since the mid 1980s. One excited Gboko resident said of the development, "We thank God Almighty for His consideration for the rehabilitation of the Gboko airstrip. We appreciate the role played by Chief Mrs. Regina Mbavekumtor Akume, JP, wife of Sen. Dr. George Akume,CON ,and Member representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the National Assembly of Nigeria."
