By Bridget Anebi// Female journalists in Kaduna State under the auspices of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), have called on the Kaduna State government under Governor Uba Sani Sani to intensify efforts in enhancing security in the state through improved intelligence gathering, effective community engagement and timely response. The association expressed deep concern over rising wave of kidnappings and general insecurity in parts of the state, particularly with regard to how they affect women, children and vulnerable rural communities. The association gave the charge in a communiqué issued at the end of its October congress held at the NUJ Secretariat, Kaduna. It rose from the congress with a commendation to Governor Sani for increasing pension funds and ensuring payment to pensioners and described the developmemts in the State's pension administration as a welcome commitment to retirees while appealing to government to sustain the effort and clear all outstanding obligations. Ahead of the forth coming elections across the country, the congress urged political actors to promote issue-based campaigns and refrain from hate speech, thuggery, intimidation and violence and encouraged the media to promote responsible and balanced political discourse. Congress also deliberated on welfare of its members, women participation in governance and its forthcoming National Delegates Conference scheduled for November 2026 and appealed for support from stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to enable effective participation, describing the conference as a platform for professional development, welfare, press freedom and gender issues. Congress also congratulated Nigeria on its 66th Independence Anniversary and noted the role of women in promoting peace, unity and national progress while appealing for renewed commitment to responsible citizenship.
