Leading governorship candidate of the NDC in the 2027 elections in Benue State Prof Terhemba Shija says his administration will focus on building a state where public resources serve the public interest, opportunities are accessible to people of the State and development reaches every local government area. Shija made the declaration at the inauguration of the party's campaign council in Makurdi recently. He insisted that "Benue needs not mere political promises but a roadmap for its practical development and an accountable leadership as well as a government committed to translating its vision into results. That is the essence of my proposed four-year development agenda,” he declared. “My vision for Benue State is anchored on purposeful leadership, strategic planning, accountability, and measurable development outcomes. A four-year tenure should be an opportunity to address long-standing development challenges, complete unfinished projects, strengthen public institutions, and establish a solid foundation for sustainable growth." Shija asserted that Benue people deserve a government with a clearly defined development agenda, realistic priorities, practical implementation strategies, and a strong commitment to delivering results within its mandate. "Governance must not be measured by promises alone, but by tangible improvements in the lives of our people," he declared. The occasion featured the presentation of the candidate's development blueprint tagged, 'The Benue rescue & reset agenda' which sets specific objectives with clear timelines and measurable outcomes. Shija said this was so that the people of the State can assess his administration's performance against promises made. He challenged other governorship candidates in the state to present their visions and development blueprints and allow Benue people to evaluate them based on their policy direction, understanding of their challenges, and proposed solutions. "Our state needs a development-focused approach that prioritises security, education, healthcare, agriculture, industrial revival, infrastructure, employment opportunities, and the effective functioning of local governments," he asserted. Reiterating his commitment that his would be a four-year single tenure, Shija said, "I am confident that, with careful planning, prudent management of public resources, transparency, and a clear sense of responsibility, a four-year administration can make meaningful progress and reposition Benue for sustainable development."
