Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has assured residents of the State that aĺl residents whose property are demolished for the development of government projects will be adequately compensated. The Governor pledged this even as he disclosed that his administration has already paid compensatiion of more than N3bn to hundreds of households impacted by various road projects across the state, including communities in Rigasa, Mahuta, Zaria, Audi, Kako, Dogon Bauchi, Kakiyeyi and the Kabala Costain corridor. The Mandate reports that Governor Sani made the disclosure while presenting cheques to 122 households affected by the ongoing 15-kilometre Ring Road project stretching from Danbushiya Junction to Danhono II in Millennium City. Sani said infrastructure development must be driven by fairness and compassion, stressing that public projects do not come at the expense of citizens’ rights and livelihoods and explained that construction on parts of the road project was slowed after it became clear that several homes and structures fell within the project’s right-of-way to allow government officials to properly assess affected properties. According to the governor, the compensation reflects the government’s responsibility to ensure that 9residents are not unjustly displaced, noting that the payments were intended to help beneficiaries relocate and rebuild their lives with dignity. Sani said it should not be viewed as an act of charity. Sani pledged that the state would continue to maintain a transparent and equitable compensation process, insisting that development must always be balanced with justice, empathy and respect for the welfare of citizens.
