In a dramatic turn of events, police yesterday arrested the father of the controversial DG of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi at the family's residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Sahara Reporters said the raid was confirmed in separate telephone conversations by human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, as well as eyewitnesses to the incident. According to the report, the police also arrested a family friend who had been visiting. The incident reportedly left Adeniyi's elderly mother in shock. The development comes amid ongoing investigation into the activities surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), which has been disclaimed by the Nigerian Presidency. Falana condemned the arrest of Adeniyi's father, arguing that it had no legal justification since the person being sought had presented himself to the appropriate authorities. "There is no legal basis for substituted arrests. The young man has promised to show up in court, so why arrest his father?" An anonymous resident of the neighbourhood said a large contingent of police officers arrived at the family's residence before taking the elderly man into custody. According to the neighbour, the officers arrived in several vehicles and prevented members of the community from intervening during the operation. "They came with four vehicles, and started harassing them and eventually took the father away. They didn't allow the neighbours to intervene before they took him away." The eyewitness further claimed that the heavy security presence created panic within the neighbourhood, as residents watched the operation unfold without knowing the reasons behind the arrest of Adeniyi's father and the family friend. Adeyemi has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that he received his appointment letter from Femi Gbajabiamila, President Tinubu's chief of staff.
