Prof. Sebastine Hon, SAN, Benue State governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in next year's election yesterday promised that he would put an end to insecurity in the State. This was even as he promised several welfare packages to ameliorate the suffering of the rural people. Hon spoke when a mammoth crowd of thousands turned out at Ugba, Logo Local Government Area to show solidarity with his governorship ambition. He told the capacity crowd that his governorship ambition is a divine call to liberate the people of the State from insecurity, poverty, and deprivation as well as to restore the dignity and lamented the deteriorating security situation in Benue State which, he said, has displaced thousands of farmers from their ancestral lands in Logo, Ukum, Katsina-Ala, Kwande, Guma, Gwer West, and parts of Idoma land. Prof. Hon noted that he had consistently demonstrated his love for the people of Sankera since 2001 when the Nigerian Army massacred Tiv people in Vaase, Gbeji, Zaki-Biam, and other communities, recalling that he took the matter up against the Federal Government then under the administration of General Olusegun Obasanjo (Rtd.). As Governor, he would do even more to protect the people. On his development blueprint, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria promised to combat poverty by granting full local government autonomy to accelerate rural development, subsidizing agricultural inputs, giving scholarships for Benue indigenes to study both within Nigeria and abroad, as well as other intervention programmes specifically designed to alleviate the suffering of the people. Addressing the capacity crowd, National President Ugondo Development Association, Dr. Daniel Bogbenda, expressed the people's satisfaction with the sacrifices Prof. Hon has made for the Ugondo people across Taraba, Benue, and Nasarawa States, pointing out that the association was convinced that, if elected governor, he would continue to stand for the people. Bogbenda declared the total support of the Ugondo community for Hon's governorship ambition. Also speaking, the National President of Ugondo Youth Association, Comrade Shim Gabriel Msuega, urged Hon not to be discouraged by the unfortunate incident that occurred when the Ugondo community had planned to honour him on a previous occasion and assured the governorship candidate that the people would demonstrate their love and appreciation at the polls at the appropriate time.
