Media aide to Samuel Ortom, Terver Akase has thrown an open challenge to the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia over N300 billion the administration claims it has expended on education and health sectors in the last three years. Akase suggested an accountability tour to prove the veracity of the claims by the Governor. According to him, the State's budgets as approved and implemented by Governor Alia in the last three years (2024, 2025 and 2026) showed the following breakdown as far as the two sectors are concerned: "In the 2024 budget, Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration allocated N33.8b to the Education sub-sector, representing 15% of the budget. Healthcare got the allocation of N33.88 billion, representing 15.01% of the budget; in the 2025 budget, the Alia administration allocated N82.5 b to Education. Health received the same N82.5b allocation; in the 2026 budget, the Alia government allocated N33.86b to Education (representing 15% of the capital budget). Healthcare was allocated N33.88 billion (representing 15.01% of the capital budget). This means that in three years, the Alia administration has allocated N299.74 billion to Education and Health!" Akase then challenged Alia's spokesperson to pick any of the 276 council wards in the 23 local governments of the State and show evidence of what N299.74 billion has delivered to people of the State, whether a borehole serving a health facility or a science laboratory in any public school, in fact, "anything substantial that reflects these allocations," Akase said. He particularly requested that the exercise should not include federal government funded projects. Akase submitted that, "The beauty of this challenge is that it is not about APC or PDP. It is about accountability, stressing that Government budgets are not campaign slogans. They are public commitments backed by taxpayers’ money, and public money must produce public results."
