Following yesterday's confirmation of Prof. Terhemba Shija as Benue NDC's gubernatorial candidate in next year's election, buoyancy has been noticed across the length and breadth of the state, especially in Makurdi the state capital. Since rumours of the Professor's confirmation started filtering into the state last Friday, hundreds of meetings have been held with several groups gathering in clusters to discuss the veracity of the rumours and its implications for the Benue guber race coming up next year. Telephone lines of Shija's close political associates have been inundated with calls from the state's 23 local governments, especially the Idoma-speaking area where Prof. Shija is considered a son, given his long and well known advocacy for a Benue Governor of Idoma extraction in the spirit of fairness. Supporters of the erudite Professor have finalized arrangements for a befitting reception for Shija who is expected in the state this weekend. Shija, one of the most experienced politicians in Benue today is renown for honesty, transparency as well as total commitment to development. He is generally known to have long developed a blueprint for Benue's development, with clearly mapped out strategies for transforming its natural endowments to the betterment of its people's security, welfare as well as its physical development.
