By Richard Abu Proprietor of Famous Star Institute of Management and Technology Dr. Maikasua Raboci Dawa has stressed the need for Nigerians to embrace vocational and technical education describing it as the only way to tackle poverty, unemployment and out of school children. Dawa made the charge at the opening ceremony of the students' week which took place at the main auditorium of the school at Zimbabwe along Abuja - Keffi express road, Karu local government area of Nasarawa State. Dr Dawa stressed that many who have graduated from the school have set up their own businesses and are doing well while many have returned to enroll for Higher National Diploma and Degree programmes. He stated that the school which began with 130 students and 15 staff has grown in four years to having over 345 students and graduated more than three sets who are doing well in the society. He charged students to be hardworking, committed and dedicated, while calling on members of the host community, the entire people of Nasarawa State and Nigerians in general to bring their children to the school as it is duly registered with the federal government and will soon get accreditation with the National Board for Technical Education and other regulatory bodies. According to him, the institute is partnering with several bodies in the country and abroad and will soon key into the TIVET programme of the federal government's renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration. Speaking earlier in their key note addresses, Prof. Akhabue Uyi, Dr. Friday Nyam and Dr. Isaac Ihuman all charged the students to be focused and committed to their studies and embrace innovation through the use of digital technology the institute has provided for them. The speakers commended the efforts of the Proprietor of the institute for what they described as the best modern education that focuses on practical skills and urged students to shun the get rich quick syndrome ravaging society today in the name of content creation as a result of social media. In his vote of thanks, the Registrar of the institute Mr. Gabriel Ameh Imaji thanked all who graced the event, pointing out that they made it a huge success. He commended the guest speakers as well as the management and students who turned out in their hundreds to participate in the one week activities. Highlights of the event was the entertainment of guests with traditional dances, drama presentation and football match. Meanwhile, other activities have been lined up to climax on Saturday with fund raising for the construction of an ultra modern E-learning Center.
