Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf and dozens of other victims during coordinated security operations in Zamfara State. The Joint Task Force North West disclosed the development in a statement issued by its Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja. According to the statement, troops attached to Sector 2 were mobilised after receiving a distress call over an attack on the rector’s residence in Tsohon-Tasha Street, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, in the early hours of July 28. The attackers reportedly killed the rector’s private security guard and injured another resident before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf and members of his household. The report said troops engaged the assailants on arrival, forcing them to retreat and abandon the kidnap attempt, while the rector and his family were rescued safely. In another operation the same day, soldiers on night patrol responded to reports of terrorists attacking Tungan Dorawa community. Although difficult terrain initially slowed the troops’ advance, they pursued the fleeing gunmen, engaged them in a firefight and prevented the abduction of residents. The military also said troops intercepted another group of armed men targeting a businessman, Alhaji Azaria, in the same community. The intervention forced the attackers to flee, leading to the rescue of a businessman and 21 other residents who had been abducted from nearby houses. During the operations, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Falalu Yusuf, who is alleged to have provided information to the attackers. He has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. Commending the troops, Danja said Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to sustaining operations aimed at restoring peace and tackling insecurity across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
