In this exclusive interview with www.themandatenews.com.ng, Akie, aspirant for the 2027 House of Assembly, Keana State Constituency, Nasarawa State on the platform of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) says he is ready and willing to provide that purposeful leadership. He believes that 2027 provides the people a chance to choose progressive representation to push the constituency forward. He spoke to Morris Terkula recently. Excerpts: Ques: Honourable, would you mind telling the people why you are running for House of Assembly to represent Keana Constituency in the 2027 elections? Ans: Thank you. I’m running because Keana deserves more than promises. For too long we’ve had representation without results. Our youth are leaving for Lafia and Abuja because there are no opportunities here. Our farmers struggle with no access to markets and insecurity even as our schools and primary health centers need real investment. I am running to be that voice that works, a voice that initiates bills, attracts projects, and holds the executive accountable for Keana. Ques: As we all know, Keana today faces a multitude of problems; what will be your top three priorities if elected into the House? Ans: My number one priority would be security and peace-building: we must legislate and push for community policing (which has already been approved by the federal government), and establish dialogue platforms because no development happens where there is fear. Second would be agriculture and youth empowerment. Keana is a farming hub. I will sponsor bills for farm input subsidies, rural roads, and processing centers. We must also create skills-acquisition centers so our youth become employers, not just job seekers. Third would be education and healthcare: I shall strive to upgrade our Primary Health Centres, provide scholarships and learning materials. A sick or uneducated constituency cannot compete. Ques: Houses of Assembly are supposed to be about lawmaking, oversight, and representation. Many people don’t see what lawmakers do. How will you be different? Ans: By being visible and accountable. To begin with law making, I will sponsor bills that directly impact Keana's local markets, protect our farmers, as well as concentrate on data and digital opportunities for youth. Second is oversight: I will ask questions on the budget, for example, where is the money for Keana roads and water? Third would be effective representation. Every quarter I will hold a Town Hall meeting in Keana. You elected me, you must audit me. No Abuja politician behavior. Ques: 2027 is still some time away. Politics is expensive and tough. How are you preparing and what’s your message to voters? Ans: Politics is about service, not money. Yes, it’s tough, but the people of Keana are tired of stomach infrastructure. I speak to voters and tell them directly, "I am one of you. I grew up here. I feel your pain. Give me the mandate and I will give you results so that you can point to a bill, a borehole, a road, a job for your child." Ques: If you get to the Assembly in 2027, what is the one headline you want Keana people to read about you one year after, in 2028? Ans: “Keana Lawmaker Attracts N500m Agro-Processing Hub and Passes Bill for Youth Skills Fund.” I want to be remembered as the man who moved Keana from complaints to projects.
