In a bid to boost staff morale, strengthen healthcare service delivery, and reinforce government's commitment to the welfare of health professionals across the state, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia yesterday released N130m for immediate settlement of key staff of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi. Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande commended the governor for prioritising workers' welfare and supporting reforms aimed at enhancing quality healthcare services. He assured staff that management would ensure transparent implementation of the approved payments. The funds cover payments for specialist training allowances for consultants, medical residency training and the first batch of nursing uniform allowance, as well as the 2026 promotion and incremental steps allowances. The state government also pledged to settle all arrears after the committee on verification of claims by the hospital resolvies some grey areas relating to documents and outstanding entitlement records. A statement signed by Moses Tsenzughul, Head, Public Relations and Protocol for the Teaching Hospital, explained that some of the allowances are linked to the review by the National Income, Salaries and Wages Commission approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and made effective from July 2024.
